Lancashire Mining Festival - Review 06/07/24
Having established that Gregson Lane is geographically and philosophically the middle of nowhere, existing simultaneously in the orbit of Preston, Hoghton and The Ribble Valley, the arrival of Graham and Bernadette – otherwise known as Trouble at' Mill, is both an achievement and a delight – the latter being a multi-faceted triumph. The polished duo brought another aspect of folk music to an already eclectic afternoon. Their good natured interaction with both each other and the audience forms the bedrock of a set that features cleverly observational songs, musings on the nature and contradictions of everyday life delivered, with wit and humour – every time I have seen them, my world has seemed a better place for it, and this occasion was no exception.

ANSDELL LIBRARY Nov 2023

Dear Bernadette & Graham
As one of the audience who attended your concert last night I would like you to know how much I enjoyed the evening.
both the songs you sang and the fact that you allowed us to join in with those we knew.
Learning the history of one or two of the songs was interesting too. A friend I was with rang me this morning to say again how much she had enjoyed last night and the secretary of the Friends of Ansdell Library sent out an email this morning saying that the evening had been enjoyed by everyone she'd spoken to last night.
I hope you had a safe journey home and felt you had been made welcome and appreciated.
All good wishes for your continued success,
Mrs Joan Croft

Hi Bernadette & Graham,
Just want to thank you very much for such a wonderful, friendly, entertaining evening last night. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.
I will definitely pass on your contact details to anyone who asks.
Thanks once again

REVIEW FROM LANCASHIRE MINING MUSEUM
June 2023

Which takes us to Trouble At' Mill, Graham and Bernadette making the trip from Gregson Lane and making us glad they did. Amongst their weaponry is tradition in song and presentation, with a touch of music hall and humour – quite right for a performance in the heart of Gary and Vera Aspey territory. In keeping with their ethos of not taking themselves too seriously, they provided a little reassurance for those of us who struggle with barre chords and, after a little audience participation, an extremely astute comment on the fact that those people who never join in the singing are never thanked for recognising their limitations – an observation that reminded me of a musician friend who remarked about the contrasting emotions experienced when an audience member near the stage, was word perfect for every song – but out of tune for the entirety of the set. Combining a light touch and a great selection of songs, they were perfectly placed in the programme and much appreciated. Despite the frivolity, there is a serious aspect to what they offer, they did also give us a timely reminder that the most dangerous songs are those that make you think
